About the role

Calvary has embarked on a significant growth and redevelopment strategy which includes new greenfield projects, brownfield replacement and capacity projects, infrastructure upgrades and potential acquisitions.  These projects are being delivered between2015-2020 with an investment value of ~$500 Million, across Calvary’s Private Hospitals, Public Hospitals and Retirement Community streams. 

A range of projects are currently being delivered from greenfield hospitals and aged care facilities, brownfield extensions, and internal re-use/modifications and there are currently some 12 projects in Construction, Design Development or pre-DA and a further 8 projects in early feasibility or Masterplan concept stage.

The Senior Development Manager is responsible for planning, coordination and delivery of individual projects to achieve smooth and timely progression to completion and post-occupancy. The role reports to and works closely with the National Development Manager as well as site-based Service GMs/CEOs, Department Managers, external Project Management firms and other key stakeholders. The role involves preparation and review of tenders and managing the work of consultants and contractors (including external project managers), as part of the project management process, generation of project briefs, regular progress reports and assessments, budget analysis and risk mitigation strategies.  Preparing indicative feasibilities and development options for individual sites or critical plant replacement may also be required on occasion. As a member of the Development Team, the Development Manager will be responsible for undertaking other development-related tasks as required by Calvary, at the direction of and with the support of the National Development Manager. As a Senior manager, a reasonable level of autonomy is expected. Occasional regional travel within Australia is a requirement of the role.


What you bring  

  • Extensive experience in the development and implementation of projects.
  • Experience in the Health Care or Aged Care sector is preferable.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications(s).
  • In depth understanding of related financial controls.
  • Project analytics skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.

Selection Criteria Essential: • Tertiary qualifications in Construction Management, Project Management, Engineering, Architecture, Health/Aged Care or a technically related field
Essential: • Minimum 8 years’ experience in construction management or project management with knowledge and experience in all phases of project management, preferably in aged care or health sector and in a senior role
Essential: • Solid financial understanding and ability to analyse data and prepare budgets to enable sound business decisions
Essential: • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex issues and develop processes to solve for same, particularly in the context of formulating project plans.
Essential: • Excellent stakeholder engagement capabilities
Essential: • Sound self-management skills, the capacity to set priorities, manage competing projects and work assignments and meet deadlines;
Essential: • Well-developed facilitation, oral and written communication, interpersonal and people management skills
Desirable: • Experience in a senior project management or leadership role
